Being an 80's Baby

As much as I appreciate the time I was born, I think I would've really enjoyed being an 80's teen or in my early 20's.  I hate to admit how much I love the EIGHTIES! The big hair, the music, even the fashion.

I mean, it was okay to let your hair be wild and let your clothes hang loose.  And don't get me started on the TV shows and movies.  The Molly Ringwald movies were at their prime, and action movies as we know them today were getting started.  Eddie Murphy was running around in colored leather suits and MJ had a nice light mocha latte' complection.

People weren't as high as they were in the '60's and '70's so I would've missed out on the coke and promiscuity that plagued the past generation.  Blacks were STARTING to be looked at more as people than "coloreds" eventhough rascism was still prominent.  It was slowly but surely starting to become politically incorrect.

All the Musical Icons of the 60's and 70's were leaving Disco and Soul and starting to have a more pop, rock, electronica feel.  Diana Ross, Chaka Khan, The Temptations, and especially Tina Turner.  Hip hop was growing to new heights.  R&B was changing to the likes of New Edition, Guy, LeVert, Anita Baker, Tony, Toni, Tone, Babyface and Luther. Black folks were doing their thang!

I may be mistakened but I think the 80's is when people officially started to worry about their health.  STD's, lung cancer, AIDS were becoming more known about.  People started to learn that their choices actually had consequences when it came to their health.  They had to actually think about it before they went to the back of Studio 54 to raw-dawg a few people and snort a line.

Technology was on a rise.  Household computers, and CD players were available for the people who had money.  The first cell phones were starting to show up eventhough they were the size of a shoebox.

I wonder how much gas was....the change in income and prices due to inflation really interests me for some reason.  The fact that a $30,000 salary back in the day was really doin' the damn thang and now a days you can't afford to pay rent and a car note off that salary.

People talk a lot of crap about '80's fashion without realizing how much it is impacting today. I mean seriously, you really think you were the first one to put on leggings with an oversized top, a boyfriend blazer, some bleached jeans, or a hair accesory with a huge bow? Please, we are more 80's than anything right now.  We may not be as brightly colored, or asymetrical, but we are wearing the same stuff.  Not to mention the emphasis on the shoulder that is breaking through right now, thanks to Ri-Ri.  Everybody can't do a shoulder pad, a one-shoulder dress, or a top with an embellished shoulder.  I am wise enough to know that I dont need to put any more emphasis on my upper body since my boobs already attract enough attention.

That Madonna lace look is back with a vengence now.  Lace down the side, toulle under our skirts and dresses.  All 80's stuff!! People are even rocking one short lace glove like they used to back then.  The MJ Thriller Jacket is pretty popular too! Not to mention, if I see one more person in an embellished Military Jacket inspired by 1980's MJ, I may shoot myself. Every trend does not work for everyone!

And how many people have one of these leather jackets from F21???--->

OMG and 2009 was the year of the floral dress!!! Jesus, every time I turned around I saw somebody in a black dress with colorful florals. Tube, with the corset top and tulle under the bottom. God help us all!

A lot of my favorite movies were made in the eighties, Breakfast Club, Coming to America, The Legend of Billie Jean, Beverly Hills Cop, Ferris Bueller's Day off, E.T, Beetlejuics....the list goes on and on.  Not to mention the horror film game really started in the 80's. Freddy, Jason, etc......

And lets not forget the makeup and hair! Those are two things that are not trending right now! I love me some big hair, but I don't see myself ever teasing a bang or applying purple blush! LOL, although I do endulge in a red lip from time to time. But I think the red lip was more prevalent in the '90's than the 80's.

While looking at '80s stuff, I found this pic of the first FOXY black barbie to have an afro circa 1980! She's cute! I even like her sweater. If I was a kid back then, I would've had her and her name would've been Cleopatra! Look at her patting her ‘fro! So cute! She looks like she has a little Soul Glo’ in her hair to moisturize it ever so lightly! LOL

To make a long story short, I love the 80’s and I wish I was older at the time so I could experience more of it firsthand! But then again, I like my age now and if I was in my twenties in the 80’s I would be in my 40’s now. No thanks! LOL

How Time Flies

Wow, I haven't blogged since September.  That's a shame.  I really like expressing myself here and I don't really know why I stopped.  Im gonna try to change that in the coming weeks.

So much in my life has changed since September.  I'm single (and ready to mingle, for the record), I'm not working, I applied to graduate school, I got a new car, I've gained like 10 lbs (which is gonna be gone soon), and I have decided on a total career change.

I just wanted to make my first 2010 blog entry, Ill be back when I have more creative thoughts.......

Smooches with a RED lip!
